Scope Definitions

Scope 1 — direct emissions from sources owned or controlled by the organization (fuel burned on-site or in company vehicles).
Scope 2 — indirect emissions from the generation of purchased electricity, steam, heat, or cooling consumed by the organization.
Fuel combustion factors per UK DEFRA (Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs) 2024/2025 Government GHG Conversion Factors and EPA (US Environmental Protection Agency) GHG Emission Factors Hub. Electricity grid factors are approximate national averages that change annually and vary significantly by region/utility — for compliance-grade (SECR, CDP, GHG Protocol) reporting, use your current national inventory agency figure or your utility's specific factor.
