Scope Definitions

Scope 1 — direct emissions from sources owned or controlled by the organization (fuel burned on-site or in company vehicles).
Scope 2 — indirect emissions from the generation of purchased electricity, steam, heat, or cooling consumed by the organization.

Electricity grid factors are approximate national averages that change annually and vary significantly by region/utility — for compliance-grade (SECR, CDP, GHG Protocol) reporting, use your current national inventory agency figure or your utility's specific factor.
